Problem piece - really hard or bad technique?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a bass guitar chart from a local composer which has a repeating lick in 5/4 at 140 bpm all 16th notes play in 10th postion with a chromatic run from E (9th fret G string) to C# on the same string, then returning to 10th position to finish the 2 bar repeating phrase.

I can only physically get it to 105 bpm, tried a pick, different fingerings, different right hand plucking patterns...

Any suggestions?

Are you playing near the bridge? The added tension helps with some fingering.

Maybe hammer the notes instead of pluck each one?

Maybe you could scan the piece so we could take a look at it? Maybe to help you better?
