Problem playing slap

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, i play a yamaha rbx 170, when i slap the e or a string it makes a clicking noise thats louder than the note i'm playing, does my technique need to improve, change? or is this bass not too good for slapping?

I think it is your technique. If you are worried about the bass, try another one and see if the same problem occurs.
A few days ago, someone posted this link httpwww.cyberschoolofbass.comlesson6
Hope this was helpful

It's never the bass. You need to learn to hit the string to where there's more note than click. Experiment around and you'll find the sweet spot.

the click is probably because the string is banging with the pickup's magnet (maybe the side in the E string is higher than the side of the G string?)
if not,then i'll go with JimmyM's opinion

HI.
It is possible the string is too close to the pickup.
Maybe the action is too high and in the way to get the sound playing stronger, the string cannot make 'the sound' and just do a 'clank'.

Probably you need some more practice. At the beginning it is kind of difficult, but it is just to get use to play the technique. In that case, I could recommend to practice slowly using a methronome and do the simplest exercises, like one thumb and a pluck following the beat.

Get the slap sound in every string takes some time, because it is not the same getting slap sound with the thumb (and pop) in the G, D, A and E string, the sensation is different.

Good luck

I have the exact same bass with the exact same problem and the jazz pickup doesnt go low enough to prevent this, so you may have to make a switch of the pickups or something.

hey man, I have the same bass and it sounds fine

Maybe your string hight could use some adjustment. Slap style does have a little bit of a click to it, it especially comes out if your playing quiet.

Maybe your high EQs are too high? That happens with me when I'm slapping.
