I wanted to play the drums, but at my elementary school Orchestra started in 5th grade and band in 6th. So my dad, as wise as he is, told me that bass keeps the beat as much as the drums do. So I started on the upright, then moved to electic 2 years later, then onto just about anything else with strings.

Still haven't picked up the drums... maybe in a couple more decades...

I started on bass. Afterwards, I learnt to play trumpet, then piano and lastly guitar.

Started on cello, been playing that since age 9, picked up bass 4 years later, played for a year and a half with good instruction, but ended up stopping to concentrate on cello. Picked bass up again a little less than a year ago and am having a lot of fun with it.

wanted drums

I actually wanted to play the drums but there was no way my parents would let me have drums at home, and since my mates all had guitars I thought I could get a bass instead.

Unhappy From guitar to bass

After 30 years playing guitar (classical and E-guitar) and playing now bass in a big band since 3 years and never touched a guitar...

... I'm very sad not played bass earlier!
