proper 3 finger style

i can do index-ring-middle for slow finger triplets and ring-middle-index for fast finger triplets ( raking ) but when i just try straight out plucking ( like sixteenths ) i have the habit of doing index-middle-ring-middle-repeat or sometimes index-middle-ring-middle(up-stroke)-middle(down stroke )-index

i can keep the beat and all with it but i was wondering if it is a good or proper technique, and if not, what should i do to fix it?
