proper use of scales

ei im really soori im just a begginer and i have a question about scales like my teachers taught me that in a scale you must start with the c and end with the other c on the scale so whats the purose of the other notes thats included in the scale but is not c?? um can i still use them ?? how im really sooori im just curious thanx hope anyone can help me

For a scale you start on the root (for example: C in the key of C. F# in the key of F#, Eb in the key of Eb minor, etc) and end on the octave either up or down.

The purpose of the other notes is how they relate to the root and how they relate to each other. These relationships are what make up the sounds of chords and intervals.

Yes, you can use any note in the scale (called diatonic) and you can all the notes outside the scale (labeled: non diatonic, chromatic, altered notes). It all depends on what sounds (tones) you want to hear
