Queastion about 3 fingers, triplets and slayer!

Sign in to disble this ad
Im pretty functional with 3 fingers but there are some weird rythms that i need help with which fingers to use.....Now i will use some slayer riffs as an example where they play triplets and 1 sixtnth note in between 2 triplets like in "war ensemble" and "chemicle warfare"... in playing this kind of rythm to play the triplets would i break my finger order of RMIRMIRMI and would i go RMI to play a triplet and then use my ring to play the sixteanth note and play the triplet after that doing RMI so i use my ring finger twice so my finger order would go like this RMIRRMINRRMIN?

OR should i learn to play triplets with 3 fingers other then just "RMI" and be able to play them like "MIR" so i dont break the order of my fingers..although that seems very difficult

sorry, i tried to make this post as least confuseing as i could, hopefully u could get what im trying to ask

if it works then don't change it.
what you could try is to play the sixteenth with your middle finger and see if that makes it easier or more comfortable

try all and practice what feels the most comfortable.

when i was tapping it on the table i felt a lot more comfy breaking the order of the fingers but everyone is different

Easier triplets can be found in Metallica "fade to black" chorus and in second part of the song. Maybe would be more helpful to master them before moving on to the faster stuff.
I also think that just like Iron Maiden's gallop, all of the above examples (including slayer) are not real triplets but two sixteenth notes followed by one eighth note.
BTW, speaking of slayer, Angel of death on bass is intriguing me. Does Tom really pick that fast or does he hide halftime?

To me, RMIRRMIR feels way better on the table than RMIMRMIMRMIM...

Thumbs up

galloping or triplets? galloping is group of 3 16th notes, triplets are 3 notes per beat.

I play gallop, 16th rest, 16 note, 16th rest, gallop.... like this:

1 x x x 2 x x x 3 x x x 4 x x x 1 ....
R M I ... M ... R M I ... M ... R M I ... M

hope that makes sense, I hit the solo 16th note with my middle 'on the way back' to set the next group of 16ths RMI, find it very comfortable to play very fast that way.

As far as solid 16th' notes are concerned:

RMIR,MIRM,IRMI,RMIR.....
This is really awkward at first and I was hesitant to commit to learn this way, but once you got it down and practice a lot really slow and build up speed, It's the most effective way I've found.

Steve Digiorgio uses RMIM,RMIM... for 16th notes, I started to try it this way but can't do it quite as fast, but rhythmically it is easier to keep track of at first..

well i can play that song with m fingers so im shur tom can pick it....but yeh useing my 3rd fingers feels most comfertable i guess, but the triplet or "gallop" sounds kinda week...and im worried this way might limit me in the future
