The Open-Hammer-Pluck is one of his things (check out "Lopsy Lu" from Stanley Clarke's 2nd solo album...it's a mid-70s album, no doubt an influence).
Something a local bass genius showed me back when The Flecktones were shown playing "Sinister Minister" on VH-1 (late '80s?) & becoming popular...especially a round here 'cause this is the Wootens' stomping grounds-
Thumb an Open "A"
Hammer on the "D" (5th fret/A-string)
Thumb again on the same "D"
Thumb on the "A" (7th fret/D-string)
Thumb on the "D" (7th fret/G-string)
Pluck/Pop up on the "G"-string...could even be doubled here.
That's 7-8 notes...if done efficiently.
I never got there; my bass has medium-high action...at least that was my excuse.
