Question Regarding Drop D Tuning

Sign in to disble this ad
I did a search already on drop D tuning (DADG) and couldn't find the information I needed, so here's my question...

What scales/modes can you use while playing in this tuning? Any suggestion of what kind of patterns you could use while playing would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

Since the bottom 2 strings are tuned in 5ths, it's handy to play major and minor scales in one position over 2 strings. Example: DEFG on the low D string and ABCD on the A plays the notes in a C major scale over 2 strings without shifting positions.

To make things even more interesting, try tuning the G up to A (D-A-D-A). I've been playing in this tuning for 12 years. It really extends your range, and allows for some great chords.
