Question on Tapping

I been trying my hand at some tapping techniques as of late but still do not have a clear understanding on it I think. I see alot of people when they tap they are pressing down on the frets of the note they are playing. That leads me to ask about how much pressue is actually to be applied to the string from your right fingers tapping the string and is it on the fret?

You fret the note like any other note; make deliberate and firm motions to sound the note with your right hand. But hopefully you'll abandon the whole thing.
