Hey man,

Don't worry about these guys, they're a good bunch

I agree that it is difficult to know exactly what the riff will sound like without knowing the phrasing (especially with slap stuff)

Have you tried plugging your bass straight into the mic input? You can do that with a simple 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. Set the levels carefully, and there you go.

Cheers, look forward to hearing it!

You don't have a microphone input or even a line in? Are you sure.... because that's old...

I gotta say that it LOOKS pretty badass. You say it's in 4/4, but you've got 3 'measures' of 5 slapped notes then a 'measure' of 4 popped notes. In straight 4/4, playing 5 over it is an interesting syncopation. I'll assume you're fonkifizing it a bit and playing the 5 thumbed notes to fit in a 4 beat phrase. The popped notes on the G string are actually a whole step down from the original phrase, so if you were trying to do the octave, you need to move up two frets. I'd suggest that, so you don't lose the low end on the last part, you slap the A string and 'use the rebound' of the slap to pop the G string like you have written. Every time you slap, you can pop on the way back up, pretty much doubling your speed. Same goes for popping. Anyway, hope this is the type of feedback you're looking for. Don't let any of us bastards bring you down.

ps. I slap way up on the neck all the time. I don't consider it bad sounding, it's just 1 more weird tone and texture I can squeeze from my bass. If you're getting a 'braying' sound when you slap lower, your string may be vibrating against the fretboard, and you might need to adjust your neck to compensate. Otherwise, that sound is probably you overdriving your speaker. Slapping puts a very hot signal to your amp and can over drive it pretty fast. Check your EQ settings and roll the bass back if you need to. Also, check to make sure when you slap, you aren't actually slapping the string off your pickups, that wouldn't be good.

I was kidding. Hense the

But could you give us any clue on the rhythmic nature of it. I've seen tabs (particularly Rush tabs) that have the rhythmic notation of the notes above the tab.
