 Resting third finger?

is it ok if i rest my 3rd finger on the string above the one im finger plucking with the 2 other strings.. i just cant seem to get myself to rest my 2 plucking fingers on the string above the one im playing... is there a way to better train me to do the 2 finger resting technique or is the 3rd finger method way i described uhh a bad thing to do? thanks for helping out a baby bassist :P
