Perfect advice.
I would add: try to play with relaxed hands. During a lesson with Jaco (I know, lucky me

) I asked him about his phenomenal stamina and he said that when he played, his plucking hand was as relaxed as if (his exact words) "I'm holding a piece of fruit or something." He demonstrated and told me to feel his hand and it was indeed totally relaxed. He stressed his light touch, too.
Now, if you feel pain or numbness, see a doctor right away.
