Right Hand pain

Sign in to disble this ad
I 've recently been having pain in my right hand when I play my Fender Jazz. I think it's because my wrist is bent at a funny angle when I pluck. I have tried playing with my wrist straight, but it usually ends with my headstock pointing at the ceiling or my bass slung really low(not good).I have my bass kind of high on my chest, but not extreme. I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem or has a solution to this pain?

Maybe you're anchoring your thumb too much and that creates a weird wrist angle.

You should try the floating thumb technique

Do a search on floating thumb and you should be fine.

What is really low? When people make fun of bassists with low slung basses, they mean down around the knees. If lowering the bass to around the belt buckle saves your wrist, it is worth it. Although, by all means, try the floating thumb technique first.

Why not point the headstock at the ceiling? That way, the neck is in a more ergonomic position as well.
