Right hand palm?

Does anyone else use the palm of their right hand to mute the low E string (when playing the D or G string)? I was bringing my pinky up to mute it, but this seems a bit easier..

I use the same technique on the guitar, so I figured it would make sense to use it on bass, too, since that damn low E is always ringing out when I'm not playing it (and floating thumb isn't an option if I'm playing one of the higher strings, since my thumb is already being used).

Rest your thumb on the A string when playing the D and G strings and adjust its position as necessary to mute the E string as necessary. This came as common sense to me as soon I even heard the words "floating thumb."
