right hand technique...resting on the body??

ok so ive noticed lately that my fingering hand is usally resting on the body of my bass...well not my hand, but like my arm/wrist depending on what string im playing on...im playin a 5 string and i use floating thumb....

is resting on the body a bad habbit?

I've always played like that. That's the reason why I felt so uncomfortable the very few times I played a Steinberger-style bass (although I'd work hard to get used to it if I had a real Steinie).

I think you should play however feels comfortable to you, within reason. I have my bass quite high and have my elbow almost behind the body a lot of the time. Only problem is that I can't play down towards the bridge like that but for the times I just feel like playing really relaxed, it's perfect

I anchor my thumb on the bridge pickup and just let my forearm rest on the body. It feels good, doesnt give me any wrist pain, so it works for me.

Yep. Forearm on the body - with fingers or pick.
