Are there any ways that you know of to improve independence with both hands?

Im trying to tap an ostinato on the higher register with my left hand while tapping a melody with my right in the lower register and I have zero coordination.

what exercises do you know will help me get better at this?

When it comes to coordination between hands for tapping, the only way I can really imagine improving your skill at it is to do it often. Maybe start out with less complex things, or playing a bit slower at first as well. Hopefully that helps out.

I learned Linus and Lucy once; that was my first experience in tapping. Then I forgot it because I rarely ever tap in my bands, so I'm in the same boat. Very little independence.

From what I remember, I would practice both hands' parts separately, slowly then a tempo, until I could do either without many mistakes. Then I would go super slow, counting each beat subdivision out loud as I lined up the parts. After doing this for freakin' ever I would get the metronome and start slow, then increase the speed gradually. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but it worked back then; just took a lot of time and concentration.
