Robert Deleos plucking style?

I have been playing along with some STP. They got some pretty cool basslines. Anyway I was wondering what kind of technique he uses, cause songs like "Trippin in a hole in a paperheart" and "Interstate Love Song" are kinda tricky. I can get "Interstate Love Song", but it takes some work to do the chorus. Which made me wonder? Does he have a different or odd way of plucking?

Hmm, the bits and pieces of the bassline from Interstate Love Song that I remember contain some counter-melody that is almost off-key, but sounds good. Do you find it difficult because you're not sure what he's playing (not an issue if you have the tablature), or you know what he's playing but the notes are hard to reach? Or something else? I've never really tried the song myself...

I guess for me its trying to get that same smooth sound. I know how to play it, and can play the notes, but getting it to sound smooth, and not too rough is what I am having abit of trouble with.

No special new fancy technique... just good ol' fashion bass playing.
