Rush - Driven, weird solo part

Sign in to disble this ad
In Driven, Geddy plays a cool bass solo live. On the studio version, however, it's the main low line coupled with a dubbed-over, octave-higher riff. See attatchment for an idea. Realistically speaking, it shouldn't be played. However, playing it like that gives the cool effect of 2 basses at once, and I've been practicing it.

I use my thumb and my index on the A+G and D+D strings on every chord. Basically, I'm hitting the note and its octave together, and then the 2 open D strings together. I'm doing it with a kinda pinching technique with my fingers.

My questions: Is it feasible? Will it sound good? And I put this in Technique for a reason: Am I playing it the easiest way possible? Any suggestions are appreciated. Try it out if you can. Thanks.
