Scale Length

Ive been away from the forum for like 2 months! God how ive missed it.

Been busy working

Anyway

About 6 months ago i bought the cheapest bass i could and started to learn. I had some serious problems with living arangements, cash, time and work/school at the time so it was my relief at the end of my day.
The bass is a 31" scale i believe and ive become quite good according to myself and my bass teachers (but we all know he just wants to sell me more lessons)

Oh to the point.

Now that i have a job i have a G&L L2000 on the way and i should have paid it off by the end of the year.

I was just wondering if im gonna have a huge ammount of difficulty picking it up. Seeing the neck/frets will be longer/bigger, possibly the bass heavier, maybe the string distance will be a tad larger.

So has anyone ever made a change like that, did it take awhile to pick it up or anything?
Cause as soon as i get it i want to start playing in bands again, i havent played with any for awhile.

Then again, i also have long piano fingers (long and thin with quite a bit of reach), So i sometimes over stretch aswell and i find it all a little to small and sometimes it all seems bunched up..

Anyway thats all i care to ask, its great to be back XD

Thanks guys!

From 31" to 34/35"? Probably a bit. But it's not like you'll have to relearn, just adjust.

Going from 34-35 for me takes some adjustment. Going from 31-34 will take a bit more. But don't worry about it, it's just adjustment, not relearning.

I can go from my 24.5" scale guitar to my 34" scale bass with no problem.

Of course, that's because you're used to it. He's getting a new bass.

After a few hours you'll be 90% there, and the increased string tension will make your right hand technique better/easier.
