| | | Should Bass Hang Low Or High Hey all
A question for everyone
Should bass hang low or high
Here is my thought on it,
With low bass, some people find it easier for plucking
Picking, i doubt
But the main shortage of this is the left hand technique,
Like you can feel your wrist having troubles on low strings, high frets
But, there is a reason why younger people tend to play lower than older people
Why do we play bass?
To look cool, that is a huge factor that makes people play low
Anyway, because of the left hand, some people go a bit higher
What's the advantage of that?
Picking is a lot easier now, plucking can be easier or harder depending on people
Left hand is a lot more relaxed now
And you still look bit cool
But even if the left hand is alright,
Some people go even higher
When the bass is really high
Right hand technique, both picking and plucking, can be easier or harder depending on people
However, left hand probably will feel better for almost everyone
Again, there is no perfect solution for all
But there is a solution for me
Mid, period
I pluck and pick, so even if i like plucking low, i put it up by a bit for my picking and left hand
And i pluck with two fingers, one thumb, like mike dirnt, jason mccaslin, or paul taite
And the pain on my left hand is gone now,
And i don't look too bad with my fender jazz 24
What's your solution...

But it's really subjective and each person is going to want it differently, so try it at different heights and see what you like the best. |

I used to think haveing it low looked cool, but id rather be able to play well and than look cool! just me though, Im no poser

| | | | The bass should hang at a hight where is comfortably playable up and down the neck.
All regions should be accessible without too much strain.

| | | | A Little Low for the Go. I find if I play where I sit then my shoulder gets to hurting I prefer around the belt if not a little lower. I pick and pluck, and have no difficulty with either. |

I find somewhere around waist height tends to work best for me.
Any higher is easier on the fretting hand but less comfortable for the other - my hand feels at the wrong angle for slap, and having to have my elbow bent too much makes fingerstyle a pain too.
Lower is more comfortable for my right hand... well, down to a certain point anyway, but obviously makes fretting harder. |

Anyway, I prefer mine to be high. Not so high I can't play it, but fairly high.
