Shoulder pain reduced!

Sign in to disble this ad
I struggled with left side shoulder-neck pain (where the strap lays) for years - was able to comfortably play standing up for only about 45 min.

I'm tall, but slender - thought my lack of bulk was the problem (my Peavey Cirrus 4 is not a heavy bass). I used to discreetly place a small towel under my shirt for extra padding.

And at several gigs I was forced to prop a foot on a chair to support the bass with my thigh and, thus, take the weight off my shoulder.

In the last 6 months I've really focused on improving my overall technique (maximum relaxation, proper hand positioning, light touch, etc...)

Anyway, I just realized a few weeks ago that the shoulder pain is nearly gone.

I can now play for up to about 90 minutes without any discomfort. Serious pain (enough to distract me when playing) no longer exists.

Apparently the reduced tension in my hands, arms, and shoulder did the trick.

Just a note to possibly help others who may suffer as I once did.
