Silver Pick

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just recently started playing with a pick. Before that I had been a nay sayer, one of the many who say bass is meant to be fingered, but now I'm open to different sounds. However I started using a sterling silver pick and i really like its sound, its hard and growly (especially on my fretless). It kinda sounds exactly like you would think it would. Has anyone else dabbled with metal picks?

I own a metal pick. It's pretty nice, but it beats the crap out of my strings.

I figured they'd be hell on my strings, so I never tried, but now I'm interested and I probably will

I make my own copper picks by hammering out old pennies. I don't use them for bass though, just guitar.

And if you're going to try this, get pennies made before 1982 because after that, they weren't pure copper.

Yeah, the probably are, but that doesn't mean they don't work. I imagine it sounds terrible on a guitar, way to stiff. But on a bass I really like the tone. I bought it from an Indian (native american, they call themselves Indians in new mexico) craftsmen who made jewelry, picks and random silver objects.

If you want to hear what a metal pick sounds like on guitar, give a listen to Shellac. Most excellent band!

metal pics sound great on guitar. They give the tone a nice edge. I hate how you can hear the plastic pics clicking against the strings. Metal on metal sounds more natural.
