Sitar-y Sound with a 12-String

I recently picked up a 12-string Dean Rhapsody, and I've had a really hard time putting it down since!

In messing around with it, I discovered a sitar-esque sound you can get from it under the right conditions. You sort of push the double-course together and roll off it with your finger/thumb, instead of just stroking across the strings with your pick/fingertip. I think the octave-higher courses need to be slightly out of tune with each other, too, but I'm not 100% on that.

Anyways, I've attached an example of the sound with me playing the intro to Primus' "To Defy The Laws Of Tradition". I'll add the caveat that this is just a proof-of-concept and it's played pretty poorly (I butchered the slap part so bad I just cut it out entirely). Around the 22-23 second mark, you can also hear a delayed-reaction version of the effect.

I thought it was kind of a cool sound and figured I'd share it with you all to see what you think. In terms of set-up, there aren't any added effects or mixing or anything; it's just bass -> amp -> computer.
