Skin Callus

Sign in to disble this ad
Evening, small question
I play fingerstyle bass, and when you play a long time your skin starts to get hard on the tip of the fingers. Now i am going on a vacation, and i am really afraid that i will lose it, because i can not take my guitar with me, and it would take a long time to build it up again to this stage.

Is there any way to keep it without a guitar? like use my playing hand and imitate the strings with a rock or something? i know that sounds dumb but i am out of ideas. Please help!

Well, my only solution would to bring a cheap ukulele to mess around with on vacation. That would do it haha

Once a callus always a callus. I've taken a year off before and came back and was just fine.

Don't worry if they go away. In fact, I find it beneficial when mine go away: I can tell if my technique is bad if it hurts when they come back.

You can take your bass as a carry on. Depending on the flight destination, they'll most likely be able to stow it in a closet for you.

I'd say don't worry about it. It's pretty tough for a callus to go away on its own, unless you stop playing for a few years.

the only way for it to go away is if the skin peels off or gets scraped off. it's not like muscle when you don't use it

For whatever reason when im on vacation or otherwise am away from my bass for some reason, I always come back better or maybe more inspired. Relax. Have fun. Come back and rock! No stressing! Never!

Actually, it seems like they can disappear, but not just because ya went on vacation. My guitar callouses are much smaller and less hard than years ago when I played guitar more. But, it doesn't take too long before I can get them back, maybe a month or so of regular playing. Whenever I play guitar lately my fingers get sore easily, so I have to be careful not to harm them. But, if I stopped playing bass for, say, two weeks, it wouldn't be any problem coming back.
