Alright, I know there is a thread about this floating around, but the search feature is broken and I'm just too excited to not say anything

This book and CD are fantastic!

I really felt I had reached a flat spot in my playing ability because I am self taught for five years. This is exactly the sort of thing I had been looking for. I had the basics down like octaves and deadnotes and the like, but this is the kinda stuff I always wanted to be able to do. Now I gotta go get my bass from my singer's house and practice!

PS: I have the coolest mom ever. We talk every day and each day she'd ask "Did you get a package?" and I would say No. Then one night I got home from work and found this in a shipping envelope sitting on my desk. I love my mom a ton.

Yeah is a good book. Great positive post, mums are great arent they!! Im also self taught, only been playing for 2 years. Would be interested to know what were the harder things to learn. Do you know a lot of theory. Are you pretty advanced?? I dont play in a band, just practice in my room alot(lost my drivers licence) think its holding me back alot. What was the flat spot, had you just run out of new things to learn and needed a new challenge???

I don't think of myself as advanced, but lots of people I play with/for say I'm good. I can't really answer that question.

As for the flat spot, I just didn't have any challenges that I could realistically take on myself. I knew all about slapping as well as other advanced techniques, but without any direction I had no hope of figuring it out on my own properly.

The only thing I can say is that playing with people is a great help. It really pushes you to improve and learn new things.
