Slap/action question

Sign in to disble this ad
I get a really decent sound from slapping the E string (using parallel thumb), but the sound significantly weakens when I use the same amount of force on the A. Would lowering the action improve this? It's a new bass and I haven't had it officially set up yet.

I think a lower action helps with this. I had the same problem and it was quickly remedied by getting my bass adjusted with low action, although it might be just me.

It seems logical though. When you slap, you're pressing the string down against the board. With high action, you string wants to return to its natural place which is higher above the board and would therefore will reduce the power of the sound.
