Practice practice practice. Find slap bass lines you love and have the itch to play. I worked on my slap technique by learning all the early Level 42 bass lines. Mark King does some incredible stuff there and and the frustration in not it getting right had me playing into the early hours of the morning.

Don't think about speed and flash, think about groove and feel.
