I would like to know some fills or some theory on fills for like slapping or funk. I'd really appreciate it.

Just play around with pentatonics. If you can double thump and coordinate your left and right hands for muting you can add some triplets in the mix. I'm sure you can find some cool stuff on youtube as well if you wade through the crappy videos.

The best thing to do to expand your slap repertoire, and make things a little more interesting, at least for me, was to learn and practice more paradiddles, which are basically drumming patterns played through the slap technique. They help syncopate your slap riffs and make them sound more interesting, and create an illusion of speed. Check this thread for lots of useful tips

Listen to any recording with Marcus Miller.

Beyond that, drum chops are certainly cool. One of the roots of my slap technique is to think of my thumb as the bass drum and my fingers as snare & toms. One of the real dangers - of the style in general - is that you risk stomping on the drummer or taking away from the music.

How can I use dead notes? They sya people yuse them to create an illusion of faster or more intricate playing.

Yup, slapping is all about dead notes. As I said earlier, you can use your left hand to mute some of the notes and also to hit the fretboard to create extra percussion.

Slapping is a technique used to create a certain sound. The same thoughts you use to come up with fingerstyle (or pickstyle) fills goes into good slap fills.

Some of the best fills are the ones that don't have any notes.

A dead note also has to be played, therefore the speed is not an illusion in any way. The notes are being played, dead or not.

How do you play a dead note? When ever I try I usually end up with a little bit of a crappy sounding harmonic coming through..

Yes, but then you are probably doing it right, just move your muting hand alittle bit

Get your hands on the Louis Johnson slapping video. There should be some clips on youtube as well. You will gain a million ideas on how to use dead notes from that. IMO the best slapping video out there next to the Sklarevsky video.
