Ok, I'm going to start off saying,
this isn't another "how do you slap" thread, so bear with me.

I think I can slap and pop pretty decent, I got some of the funk in me, if you get what I mean lol.

But, I kind of figured out slap and pop on my own, and I'm very limited on my grooves and "tricks" and phrasing, because I haven't seen many well explained example.

So, for those slap bassists, what are some popular tricks, dead notes, hammer-ons, chords, slides that are used in the slap world?

And could you explain how they are done, and applied to phrasing?

Not sure, I taught myself how to slap and pop too. For developing your own style in a sense, what happened to me is my band plays alot of RHCP, so that fastness (also influenced by the metal i listen to ) comes out when I make stuff up. My best advice is to learn how to extend scales and such and also try not to get into that "octaves in the key of E" trap that alot of beginners fall into.

Check out the slap sticky pages here and be careful. I had to 'unlearn' some bad habits. It's easier to learn it right the first time than fix problems later.

I've seen the Slap Welcome Center, and that points me to a lot of amazing slap players, but all I can do is watch really.

I'm just asking, like what are some tricks that some of you players use that spice up your playing.
Like I see a lot of awesome sounding slide-up chords, and I was wondering how people do that.
And I was curious as in how you incorporate dead notes into the groove.
It's like the only dead note combo I use mainly is the thump-pluck combo, what are some others that might be of use to me?

Other than the pentatonic minor, what are some other popular scale patterns that are used a lot?
I figured a Dorian pattern, or anything "minor" since slap is usually a minor type sound.
