Question slappin' and poppin'

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys,

I'm new on here, just got my first bass and amp for x-mas (peavey milestone III and Peavey microbass)

Now, to my question, ive read some where to slap ur bottom strings and pop ur top strings... does this mean to slap (if u got standing tuning) ur D and G strings and pop the E and A strings... or vice versa???

Cheers...

You can slap and pop any of your strings, but the basic technique starts with slapping the E and A, and popping the D and G. Work your way up from there.

when you slap, turn your wrist like opening a door (the motion should come mostly from the wrist, not the arm). get yer thumb parallel to the string, and hit the string with the side of your thumb. at the end of a stroke, your thumb should rest on the string below the one you played, so you can hit it with an upstroke if you want

other than that, listen to everything and play everything

funk, or music which is funky, will help you play anything else
