Slapping Accuracy

Just wondering about how to get accurate with your slaps, I find that ill slap a string only to have the one next to it ring very slightly almost like a was hitting it by mistake. Whats the best way to get up your accuracy? (:

I don't use this style often enough to know better, but I have discovered that you need to get comfortable first, then find a way to get it right. I knda do it backwards: I position my thumb as close to parallel with the string up by the neck, and pop with my pointer finger. Works for me, but I don't see many players who do it this way. Hardest part was keeping my wrist loose enough!

Practice getting the thumb under control first. Figure out where on your thumb you want to strike the string. For single notes with your thumb this is usually best done with the side of your thumb striking with the part right by the joint. I find that there is a bone right there and it makes a nice place to strike.

Work on muting with your left hand the strings you are not playing. A good thing to do is start on open strings, take and open E string for example. Just strike the string and make it sound then mute it with your left hand. Repeat. Do this on one string at a time being mindful of keeping the other strings quiet with your left hand.

Like this: E mute E mute E mute E mute

A mute A mute A mute A mute

D mute D mute D mute D mute

G mute G mute G mute G mute

This takes practice, but soon you will start to hear clean notes.

This is a good starting point, take it slow!
