I don't slap much myself, but this seems like a good place to start: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...=victor+wooten

No, we can't. It takes practice. Watch the greats like Larry Graham, Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, Louis Johnson, Bootsy Collins. Then do what they do.

+1

Find the Louis Johnson video if you can and use it as inspiration. Truely amazing video for slap.
I've also heard great things about the Alexis Sklarevski(?) video but have not seen it yet.

Oh man... There are SO many threads on this topic. Many of them turned into debates about "proper" slap technique; but you'll find a lot of links, pictures, sound clips, videos, advice, and lessons.

We could repost all of these for your thread, but we'll have to do it all over again next week when someone else creates a slapping thread.

I'm not trying to sound harsh. Honest. If you do a search, you will absoultely find a ton of really great info. Let us know what you find and what worked the best for you.

Joe

Go to your local music store, sign up for a lesson or two, and tell the instructor you specifically would like help with slapping and popping.

Ask any guitarist you know. Preferably if they play rock/metal and have no experiance with the bass at all but saw Flea do it once...

Or not...

Bass is one of those things... There is a "Technique" that can be tought to you / shown to you... But the best thing to do if find what feels comfortable to you and find your own technique...

The best thing to do is start slow, and basic... and then work from there...

Dont expect to be fast and flashy at first... learn to lay a groove with the style, and then get flashy from there...

i personally love slapping, ever since i began playing i've tried to learn slapping techniques, and after a while now new doors have opened to me by watching and learning from victor wooten who's got great techniques and a lot to offer in the slapping "field"... so a great way to learn is to watch others, but also remembering to keep it real and try to put some of your own playin style.. but holding a "groove" is definantely the most important.. what's a bunch of techniques good for if u can't make ear-pleasant music ?
