How old are your strings?

My guess is that you need new strings

Work on hitting the strings light with your thumb so it rings out, and also mute the other strings with the fretting hand.

I used to have this problem with slapping and maybe you're doing the same thing.
I would hit the strings too hard. You can get a better sounding, longer lasting note, if you ease up a bit and don't use so much power in your slapping. Try it, maybe that's the problem? Or maybe the strings are old, maybe the neck needs an adjustment, it could be a few things, but try that first. See if it helps.
