| Slapping the A string on a 5er with a neck pickup

I have started playing slap on my PJ5 (which obviously has a neck Pup) and I am finding that I can't slap the A string without pushing the B string onto the pole pieces of the neck Pick up.
I'm not an awesome slapper but can play enough to get me through most cover gigs. I play slap fine on my 4 strings and I don't have an issue slapping on my Stingray 5 (obviously it has no neck Pup)
Has anyone got any tips on how to get around this issue? I have tries changing the position I slap (closer to the neck for instance) but I find it is very easy to still do it if I'm not really concentrating.
