as my old sig said "there's a seat for every butt." in music it's all good and fine to do alternate tunings and what not but when you do it because other people are doing it, when it becomes a fashion, and you're limiting your own creativeness that it becomes stupid. it's the same if you will only play one style of music. why limit yourself when there's so much other stuff out there that you could be doing?

I am not "worried" by alternate tuning. I just think it's stupid. And if you think being a musician is about "breaking the rules," you need to watch less MTV and start thinking for yourself. You have more potential than being a Whino wannabe, my ovine little friend.
I came to Talk Bass so that i could talk with other musicians and hopefully gain some extra knowledge somewhere along the line, but it just seems like some people are so negative on topics that dont even matter that much, that they are being counter productive. i dont cover mudvayne songs, i dont wear mudvaye t shirts, and if you played me a mudvayne song besides dig i probably couldnt tell you what it was.
and on the topic of retuning, i dont do it besides standard. i was in a band for 6 months where the guitarists had about 3 different tunings for 10 songs and i never retuned. they were tuning for how it sounded which is wrong because their cds all consisted of Korn, Limp BizKit and Mudvayne. that was fashion and it was stupid Because they couldnt play a scale. i dont play music so that i can "break the rules", i play so that i can have fun playing music and learning music. the point is every body is different and if we arent supposed to be different in our musical abilities and interests we might as well all be listening to blue oyster cult or whatever the best band is at one time in the burnouts minds.
and try to smile and enjoy music once in a while...

and try to smile and enjoy music once in a while... | I do! I always enjoy playing music and I am always smiling when doing this. But I know I wouldn't if I was just doing exactly what I was told by some guitarist or playing a detuned bass!!

I hate that phrase.

the weak ones are there to justify the strong - | This actually makes sense - somebody ought to base a song around this. Sort of like - lonely people's purpose in life is to be a ready "pool" to be used by the strong . It might make a good Fascist anthem!

The weak ones are there to justify the strong"
"The beautiful people" by Marilyn Manson
on "Antichrist Svperstar" (1996)
with that last line you came very close, because the last two lines are:
"Capitalism has made it this way
old-fashioned fascism will take it away"
but not close enough. because this song is not about fascism, it's just a symbol he uses.
Why don't people believe me that Manson's songs&albums (from the third album on till now) are symbolist poems and volumes of poems, not just meaningless songs of an antisocial idiot.
For those who know his album, did you ever think about that in "Dried up, tied up and dead to the world", who is he speaking to?(Death) What does that word "worm" mean?8Sin; in this "Beautiful people, it's not hard to guess then what "The worms will live in every host/ It's hard to pick which one they eat most" means)
And there are many other symbols, as well.
