Sliding Problems

Sign in to disble this ad
I wear my bass at a medium, lowish height while playing standing up, and whenever I slide, especially towards the headstock, my bass wobbles. I tried anchoring my wrist on the body, to keep the bass steady, but it feels awkward for finger plucking, I can't play as fast and smoothly as I do when I have my right hand in a natural position. I'm guessing that if I wear my bass higher, my problem would probably be solved, but I really prefer wearing it lower. Just wondering if any of you guys out there have a similar problem, and how do you overcome it?

You should probably just work on finding a way to brace your bass between your body and playing hand. Maybe playing closer to the bridge whe you know you're going to be sliding so your body acts as a fulcrum to give you a little more leverage.
