Exclamation Soloing

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

In one of my songs in my metal band I have got a bass solo! but I am not sure how to approach it, I never practice soloing, and one of my teachers said that what i was playing sounded alrite, but i was to rhythmic?!

He said I should try to be more free and vocal, I am not sure how to approach the solo in this way any tips or advice for soloing?

Cheers

arpeggios work good in metal. try playing around with the arpeggios of the chord progression and you'll probably find that some good ideas come to mind quickly.

Throw theory out the door.Do what sounds good to you. When all is said and done, you are the one that has to live with it.

If you know what notes you want to play, you have the technical side down.

Choosing the right rhythm, as your teacher mentioned, is what separates artist from student, soul from theory.
You need to come up with an interesting (IMO, non 8th/16th note based) rhythm. Try coping some vocal, jazz trumpet, or classical riffs.
