Soloing tips

I have never really thought about soloing till recently.

anyone got any tips on ways to make a solo that will sound good and not just a bunch of blabber

Don't play crap.

Sounds like a joke, but that's all there is to it. Use good judgment, listen to other people's solos and figure out why some sound good and some don't, and try to play more like the ones that sound good and not the ones that don't.

phrasing i think is the biggest part of creating a good solo, it has to speak, there have to be pauses and an ebb and flow to it

ok...The bigger problem is always rhythm than melody. You didnt even say if its slap, tap, finger or pick solo. There are some differences you know.

So at first take a scale or sth and try improvisate rhytmicaly. Solo have to flow, as A Minor said, so try to keep some simple structure in there.

If you are talking about fingerstyle soloing, then take your favourite GUITAR solos (Django Reinhardt, Bireli Lagrene, Stochelo Rosenberg - their licks sound best on bass) and try to find out what do you like about them and try to play that parts. Lets start from here.

when i solo i always seem to get stuck in one or two different rhthyms =(
