I had a group where me and the guitarist were fan of hendrix, so we played many of his songs, but at this time i wasn't enough confident in playing bass and singing all together except for my own stuff. I think that people like him or SRV and many others has shown us the way to go : play, develop and sing your own stuff and covers your prefered songs of others artists (no necessity to cover note by note, the cover songs must integrate your own style and not the opposite).
others songs? made by bassists like paul mc cartney, sting, les claypool, jack bruce, phil lynott? i have heard that Sheryl crow plays (ed?) bass, do you know some songs she sang when playing bass if any ? |

I know the group/bassist that play some of them but for some songs i don't know, can you add the group/artist of the songs you named, please? (money and another brick from Pink floyd/roger waters must have been covers by other groups and some must be better than others, so give me the version you prefer in this case please, i suppose it's roger waters in these cases but for others...?)
Thank you in advance.
oh i forgotten, do you know if is it possible to play some of SRV's songs, as i like his stuff very much? peraphs without playing the same walking bass as his bassist?
Anybody covers SRV (singing and playing bass)? |

thank you for your replies | ok... my five are very simple songs but singing and playing them at the same time is easy...
Heart-shaped Box ~ Nirvana
Sweet Dreams ~ Marilyn Manson
Down With the Sickness ~ Disturbed (hell if you can't lock you fingers in with drums on that one...)
Smells Like Teen Spirit ~ Nirvana
Anna's Song ~ Silverchair
It'd be cool if you could learn to sing and play Freak ~ Silverchair at the same time, the bass line and the vocal melody are fairly different and from there keep working your way up.

I love people who like Hendrix as composer, not only as guitarist!... And Stevie Ray Vaughan? Who loves Hendrix must love Stevie Ray Vaughan... I love these two guys and everything what they made! Best song is Jimi's Little Wing performed by SRV!
Yeah, Hendrix is our band's hero, our big guru!
See http://tieband.wz.cz, there are some recordings, but really bad recordings...
AVE HENDRIX! PEACE! TAKE IT EASY!!

Give me All Your Lovin - ZZ Top (they have the easiest lines to play and sing, IMO)
Mony Mony - Billy Idol
Another Brick in the Wall Part II - Pink Floyd
Hard to Handle - Black Crowes
Radar Love - Golden Earring
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen
The Breakup Song - Greg Khin Band
Roadhouse Blues - Doors
Old Time Rock and Roll - Bob Seger
Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider
I Saw Her Standing There - Beatles
Stacey's Mom - Fountains of Wayne
1985 - Bowling for Soup
I Want You to Want Me - Cheap Trick
Play that Funky Music - Wild Cherry
Brown-Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Bad Case of Loving You - Robert Palmer
Footloose - Kenny Loggins
Heatwave - Can't remember
Love Shack - B52's
Gimme Some Lovin - (Stevie Winwood's first band. He was a teen when he recorded that, btw.)
Super Freak - Rick James
R-E-S-P-E-C-T (back up vocals) - Aretha Franklin...
among others.
Hope that helped. I work on my bass lines first. I sing the male part in "Time After Time" from Cyndi Lauper, and I'm playing the two off-timed arpeggios over the chorus at the same time. I just think about the vocals and let the fingers do the walking from the other side of the brain. |

I'm happy that you added the groups who play these songs cause it may be obvious for american's people but for a frenchy like me it's not so obvious, so thanks again.
If this thread could be a good source for bassists to sing covers, it would be very usefull so please continue sharing your own list |
