Learn a song, get a book, learn how to read, get a teacher.

Getting a teacher or playing a different style of music can get you out of a rut. Learning to read is always important if you are serious. Teachers can help your technique, because the problem might be that your technique is making your playing difficult.

Be patient, take your time. You cant expect to be too far advanced after only eight weeks. If you are not happy with your teacher, get another, preferably a bassist, as opposed to a guitarist who teaches bass. If you are happy with your teacher then trust him/her and practice what they advise until you have mastered it, no matter how long it takes. Learn where all the notes are on the fretboard.

Listen to the music you like. Pick some of the easier songs and listen closely to them. Hear how the bass fits into the song. Trying playing along.

I found playing along to blues backing tracks a great help.

That pentatonic pattern omit the top two strings.
