it's not like you're rubbing snot on your strings, it's the outside of your nose, it's just skin oil. As far as wearing out the strings, it might dull the sound faster due to the added oil/dirt, but if he's wiping his strings down after every gig it shouldn't be a problem. I use the nose oil thing all the time, it's awesome.

and what's wrong with wiping your hands on your pants?? Who needs a fancy schmancy towel?!? La tee friggin dah people!!

I do the nose rubbing thing too. Helps in stamina too. I think the problem is probably cleaning too much. If you wash all the oil off your skin, the glands go into over time. That is at least what I have experienced. But then again I usually turn off the horn on my cabinet.
