I play in a country band. So I'm usually playing two-beat country (root and fifth) or Walking Bass (quarter notes ).

Thanks | hard to explain but easy to identify, think in straight eights the notes are exactly divided by 8 1 - and - 2 -and -3 -and- 4 -and, shuffle eights think in a eight note triplet and notes falling in the 1 and 3 of the triplet 1 e - and, 2 e - and , 3 e - and , 4 e - and .. |

1 & a 2 & a / 1 & a 2 & a / 1 & a 2 & a | You have it exactly right. There are obvious similarities in these, but the feel is everything. You're either feeling 3 or 4, although you may be playing exactly the same thing written. Always defer to the ear ....and the drummer of course
