Strange right hand technique?

Sign in to disble this ad
since reading the floating thumb technique sticky, ive been trying to practice it.
however, sometimes i concentrate too much on listening to the music instead of concentrating on my right hand
ive been noticing that heel of my hand rests heavily on the body of the bass, and that my thumb anchors on the strings only occasionally like its supposed to
its weird because my palm always gets sweaty when i play, so i wear a fingerless glove whenever i play now
anyone else use this weird technique?

lol you are now a true musician, you use fingerless gloves, i bet they are a sort of khaki green as well and if it doesn't affect your playing i don't see why it matters

Holy crap, that bass solo was awesome! So inspiring to see really good slap players!..

Anyways, I have a little story. At our usual gig avenue there was a band that was playing YYZ, at every gig they played. The bassist was quite good - but he did NOT have the proper technique down. He got alot of fret noise and ****, but people didn't notice. They thought he was the best in town. But musicians hear these kinds of things. So be careful about playing over your ability.

ha i thought I was the only person to do that, my band's practice room has not heat or insulation so practicing in the winter sucks, but i always use my fingerless gloves

I can't see how it would really matter. The heel of my hand rests on the body of the bass quite often, I find it gives me more stability. Don't worry about it too much, as long as you sound fine, and the "weird" technique doesn't affect your speed or accuracy, it's all good.
