AAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

I like wearing my bass HIGH. Heart-high.

Thing is that I play as good when I play low. Balls-low. I've been practicing.

Still, I enjoy having it high but wearing it high makes people think 'pfft, nerd' or somesuch. What do I do?

Wear it where you like to have it! if people think you're a bad musician because you like wearing your bass high..its their problem not yours...if your good, people will like your playing and not care about where you have your bass

I pretty much have to wear my bass quite high because of my small hands, but even with bigger hands i'd probably still wear it high.

if going your own way and not following trends makes you a nerd then so be it.

i wear mine on my chest..cause i play high usually and it feels best there.. but when i play low it feels bad and my arms get tired really fast..so i dont know what to do..i wanna be able to hit every fret without trouble, like sitting down..

edit:when i meant high and low i meant on the neck/fingerboard

I like mine tucked right up under my chin....I love it when people ask me why I have it that high.....my response is usually, "cause I care about my form, technique and what I play."

I have mine in a spot that makes it identical height no matter how I'm situated. Meaning, the bass is at the same height if I sit or stand. It takes an extra equation out of the mess when I'm playing...

I usually play sitting down, usually at my computer or something like that. I just set my strap so that my bass doesn't move when I stand up. So now when I go to play a show, it is no problem.

I'm a member of the "same height standing as sitting" club, and it works wonders. The kinds of people who make snide comments about it are usually the kinds of people who suddenly find they have no room to talk when I start playing.

I play with my bass slung pretty low. I did this because when I had the bass higher, my wrists were at awkward angles. I dropped my bass to where my right hand can reach the strings when my arm is just hanging down. From there, I pulled my left wrist back around towards me, so that it's straight, and my fingers wrap around the neck. Is this proper technique? I doubt it, but my wrists feel a lot better. It took a little getting used to, I used to have it at the height it'd be at if I were sitting. Now, I play just as well now as I did when I had the bass at the 'correct' height.

Playing low can and probably will lead to left wrist problems. Looking "Hip" and slung low is for looks not playing. I go with the compromise position of set the strap in a sitting position.

Set your strap to the correct height and protect your hands and wrists. Work on your hair flips and head bobs to look hip.

Bah...this strap business. Play your bass at the height you want it. Some people like it high, some like it low. It means nothing to anyone. Nobody cares.

Well, I'm playing it high now and I love it.

I need to learn some of Pacman's moves, he looks cool. 8)

Dude the most important thing considering strap height is
THE ANGLE OF YOUR WRISTS
they should be straight and comfortable when you are playing standing up.
NEVER practice sitting down "you lazy asses".
Do you gig sitting down.
This is part of developing your stamina.
