String skipping

Sign in to disble this ad
I've noticed a couple of threads regarding string skipping technique and I started thinking.....a lot of times I use my thumb and index finger rather than my normal index and middle finger. I don't slap with my thumb, I strum with it and pluck with the index finger. I found that this is helpful especialy if I want to palm mute while plucking. Is what I am doing just rediculous??? I am far from being a technicaly sound player, but I am not new to bass either. I just want to know if anyone else does this or am I the only idiot????

I do it too.

After 29 years on the bass, I have come to the conclusion
that there are many techniques, the best ones are
the ones that work for you.

Certain kinds of runs are particulary well suited for this
type of finger work, I learned it originally on the nylon
classical guitar, and have transposed it to the bass.

Works for me!
