Strings ringing out while playing with pick

Sign in to disble this ad
I've gained a measure of respect for pick player after trying it myself. I cant figure out how you're supposed to stop other strings from ringing out; when I play with my fingers either my thumb or my fingers stop them, but with a pick it seems impossible.

So my question to the pick players out there is: Do you just have to be very accurate and make sure not to hit other strings while picking? Or is there some other secret to pick playing clarity I just dont know about?

Or learn to mute with your left hand as well. Ideally, you would use a combination of both fret hand muting and palm muting.

What he said, palm muting when needed in varying measure as needed. Takes some practice and the more you use it the more the more you will gain control of your ability to dampen the "ring".

I use a combination of palm muting - and some foam rubber under the strings at the bridge. The foam does not do it all but it helps. Gives a stand up bass sound, which I like.

The way I always stop a note is by lifting my finger off the fretboard wile still touching the string. "left hand muting"
