Whats the best way to do a strum (downstroke and upstroke) using my hand?

Do you use your fingernail on the upstroke?
(I dont want to do a double thumb.)

thanks

When I strum on bass without a pick, I hold my right hand in a kind of loose fist, with the end of mt thumb and then end of my index finger held together, and I downstrum with my index fingernail and upstrum with my thumbnail.

Yeah sometimes i mess around with strumming without a pick, its pretty fun

I downstroke with both my middle and ring finger.
its like a mix of strumming and slapping the strings with my fingernails.

Like when i slap sometimes i pluck, or i downstroke with those 2 fingers
