Subtituting fingerstyle playing to slapping on solos..

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys.

I've been playing slap and fingerstyle solos for quite awhile now. But I realized there's a big gap between both.. It's just.. So different that I'm kinda stuck with each style. So couple days ago I decided to work on my phrasing on slapping and tried to play lines or at least melodies.. I'm still curious and trying to figure out how to get more of it, so if you guys have any suggestion, advice, or even comment on the playing, that'll be great!!

Great ideas, wicked phrasing, lovely vib, feel, touch, it's all there IMO it's all there, if I had just one thing to mention, don't play all your cards in one hand (I know this is a demo of your style, cool) and work on dynamics (quiet drop downs and builds) not that you don't already do this in your playing but IME often overlooked by a lot of musicians I've worked with, understanding and feeling dynamics add's so much......but hey, loved it, it's you and it is good

Check out Alain Caron for fingerstyle/thumb line swapping, very fluid, or nail Squarepushers thumb technique and then tell me how to do it please : )

IMO Remember to make your influences into your own style, don't show where it came from too much ; ).

Thanks alot! You're really right about the cards thing.. I think most of the time it's kinda hard to distinguish that "pattern" thing and "feel" thing.. they just.. so close that you don't even know which one is happening. Thats what I feel.

Good job. I'd just offer that maybe you want to play a phrase with one style, then repeat the same thing in the other, so that we would know it's in your bag. (two different ways to say the same thing, you know?) The transitions them selves back and forth seemed clean and cool. Never underestimate the power of an ascending triplet line, btw.
