Supergluing fingers

So one of my band's new songs involves tons of popping. I heard superglue on fingers reduces pain and can function as callouses. Does it work?

Certainly does, spread it on thin, blow on it to dry it and apply another coat. It will be worn off in no time, so you can imagine the wear your finger skin gets.
Remember to make sure its dry before you touch things.
If you put it on too thick it will lift/tear of as a lump or crack and flake with edges that can catch on things, so thin applications ar where its at...try one play, then re-apply if needed.

I tried it before practice today, worked like a charm! No kidding about the wearing off thing though. I reapplied it four times in thirty minutes and there's barely any left on my fingers now.

A guitar player I work with uses it. Swears by it.

I've done it and it works. Just don't do what I did and glue your two fingers together...I ended up playing one church thing with my index and middle fingers fused.

it's wonderful

if your fingers crack(like mine do every dec.),split at the cuticles,i work with my hands but dec. seems to be THE month i have issues.of course you'll be scared about toxins entering your system but it's some wonderful stuff.allows the body to heal underneath

i know this isn't about fixing splits but thought i'd thro' my dime in=try it it won't hurt you, then you'll know

give electrical tape a try while youre experimenting. i always have the right sized strips taped to my (amp) head in case my finger start to bleed or blister.

however, i strongly, strongly advise playing without anything until you absolutely have too. calluses beat glue any day of the week. practice until it hurts or you get tired. i would only use tape or glue if i had to finish a set.

I have read that the superglue used in the medical profession is not the same as what you buy to fix a cracked volume knob. There is one that is 2-octyl-cyanoacrylate, marketed as Dermabond that is more specific for applying to skin. (I don't know if that's what docs use, though). The every day superglue is ok for emergencies, they say, but could produce some side effects (although I'm not sure what they are).

Just some stuff I looked up online.

I've used superglue on a cut finger to get through a gig several times. I read the labels on all the superglues they had at the store. Almost all said they were toxic except Krazy Glue. It works really well.

The only time I have ever bled when playing was when making an F-chord on my first electric which had a nut that was WAY too high. E-string went right up in the cut, too. Youch!!

I think developing callouses is a better option to superglue. Just my view, though. (I do use it on a broken nail, though, but only when necessary).

I would rather have callouses but in the meantime, this new song with my band is absokutely killing me, and I'd rather not wait for callouses to develop.

I once cut my left hand index finger while chopping onions and put on 'Liquid Band-Aid' to get me through the gigs I had that week... It would last long enough for me to finish a set and put on another coat for the next one...

Per Wikipedia: "2-octyl cyanoacrylate is a medical grade glue encountered under various trade names; derma+flex® QS™, SurgiSeal, Octylseal, FloraSeal, Dermabond, Surgi-Lock and Nexaband" Some of these are available in your pharmacy.
Calluses develop and calluses peel off. The only way to manage calluses is to practice, practice, and practice.
Not to gross you out, but the quick way to harden skin is to pee on it. I'm not kidding - really - it does work. In college I had a job with a mason. The skin on my hands was soft and was getting cut to ribbons. They told me to pee on them and I did. Within a week it was like I had a pair of leather gloves on. I think this trick started with coal miners. Now you might want to just do your finger tips -I don't want to hear any complaints that you can't reach around the neck anymore because you've gone too far.

I've also heard that kneeling for five minutes a day in a pasture with both hands in a cow pie really toughens up the skin.

(I wonder how much we can get him to do?)

Kind of on the topic... I knew an older guy who used to rub his grand childrens urine in his hair, he said it kept it black. They all used to piss in jars and take it on visits. I think I would rather go grey gracefully.

I don't know about super glue, I say play through the pain, puss blood and all.
