Sweep picking shape

I've always liked the idea of sweep picking. Because I'm a fan of both Tool and Protest the Hero, the idea of sweeping with a bass.
Now I heard that sweep picking consists of arpeggios.
But would this be 1-3-5-8-10-12..etc.. (1-3-5-8/1-3-5-8)
Or would it be 1-3-5 (the basic major chord shape) then you do that same shape off of that shape?
An example of this shape would be.
G----------------11-14-11---------------------------
D-----------9-12----------12-9----------------------
A------7-10--------------------10-7-----------------
E----8-------------------------------8---------------
Or the first example of the 1-3-5-8/1-3-5-8
G----------------9-12-9-----------------------
D------------10---------10--------------------
A-------7-10---------------10-7---------------
E-----8--------------------------8-------------
It is the same idea pretty much except you see I did 10th fret the next time for the octave and continued a chord off of that instead of chording the 5th.
Or, I don't feel like doing a quick tab, would I have to consider the different modes for the positions on the scale? (Lydian, Dorian, Ionian, Mioxaian(sp?), Dominant 7th, etc?)
P.S. I have searched 'sweep' on TB! |
